Family Coaching Café

The purpose of this project is to help parents feel comfortable and safe to ask for help in changing relationships in their family. Parents can share their challenges and get a different perspective in a relaxing and uplifting social environment.

We carried out some research recently which showed 70% of parents needed and wanted help and didn't know where to go or who to trust. The majority of the other 30% still wanted a copy of the ebook “Listen to your children… and they will listen to you”.

Our Founding Beliefs

  1. Parents are doing the best they can with what they know
  2. Children are different today, more sensitive and must manage tremendously rapid change in external influences - technology, population dynamics and culture
  3. Parents need new skills
  4. Parents are under enormous pressure from society, the government, media and their own families
  5. Parents feel stigmatised and failures, they think they are the only ones suffering a particular problem, that they ought to be doing better – plus of course the huge ‘guilt’ gene
  6. There is very little support for parents, none for parents of teenagers
  7. Parenting skills is mentoring. Personal empowerment is coaching
  8. Coaching can help you take back control of your life and you can create me time.

You can take back control of your life?

 What people have said

"Parents often beat themselves up with guilt because of the things they haven't done right, they don't spend any time thinking about what they have done right, and they are afraid to ask for help. Parents feel uncomfortable to let people think they have failed, but in fact they haven't failed at all. Parents don't like to ask for help as they feel that's acknowledging that they have failed, when actually they have not failed they are just struggling with the next step.

I think every family and every individual should have the chance to speak to a family coach to realise their potential and worth. And be able to act and interact with others particularly family members. Unfortunately there isn't enough love, interaction and communication within some families, which is why the world is in the state it is."
Mrs S Green, Parent, Maidstone Kent

"I think it is a great idea and there is nothing in the area like it, in fact there is nothing like it anywhere that I'm aware of. The cafe approach provides a valuable support mechanism for parents who may not access other services and gives them useful parenting skills."
Julia Fraser, Community Development Officer, Maidstone Borough Council

The Future

We have taken the bold route of raising finance to evolve this project and plan to open our first café this year – enabling parents to feel comfortable and safe to explore a new way of being with their family, as well as socialising with other parents. There will be a range of themed coaching and free taster sessions for parents, teenagers, single parents, children with special needs, Dads and the whole family.

Long term, we aim to license this model and have an Family Coaching Café in every city and town in the UK.  The revenue created will subsidise training and coaching so we contribute to developing respectful family relationships, protecting the fabric of our society.
